Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, has reported a significant financial setback with a $238 million loss in the second quarter. This comes as the company redirects its efforts back to its social media roots after previously diversifying into cryptocurrency and other areas.
Despite the substantial loss, the company experienced an increase in revenue, generating $1.7 million during the quarter, which is more than double what was recorded the previous year. Kevin McGurn, the newly appointed CEO, emphasized that the company would refocus its resources on strengthening its core social media platform. However, he also noted that some projects would continue, including the anticipated merger with nuclear fusion company TAE Technologies.
In a strategic move to attract more business, Trump Media introduced the Truth API, a subscription service designed to provide financial firms with early access to posts from Donald Trump and other notable users on Truth Social. This service, which ranges in cost from $60,000 to $100,000 per month, has already secured 10 clients, primarily from the high-frequency trading sector.
As of the end of the quarter, Trump Media’s financial standing includes over $400 million in cash and short-term investments, alongside a substantial holding of approximately $1.2 billion in bitcoin and related assets. The company also carries about $1 billion in debt in the form of convertible notes due to mature in 2028.
