LG Innotek has joined forces with Japan’s TDK to create advanced vision and tactile sensing modules aimed at enhancing robotics and physical AI applications. This strategic partnership leverages LG Innotek’s expertise in optical and precision engineering alongside TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technology.
The collaboration is set to yield its first product, a vision sensing module incorporating an inertial sensor, by 2027. This innovative system aims to integrate visual, motion, direction, and auditory data, thereby equipping robots with a more nuanced understanding of their environments. This advancement is expected to significantly improve robots’ responses to their surroundings while minimizing image distortion caused by movement.
In addition to vision sensing, the two companies are also working on a tactile sensing module that functions similarly to human skin. This technology will enable robots to detect touch and pressure across their hands, arms, and bodies, offering them a more refined sense of interaction with their environment. The tactile module is also anticipated for completion by 2027.
According to LG Innotek, this partnership with TDK will bolster its standing in the burgeoning robotics sector. By broadening its array of AI sensing technologies, which include cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors, LG Innotek aims to solidify its role as a leader in the market.
