Lidl Hungary has launched its largest logistics center in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza, representing an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to around €162 million. This new facility, which spans over 83,000 square meters, is set to enhance the retailer’s supply chain by providing goods to approximately 70 stores across Hungary.

The logistics center has already created more than 400 new jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees in the near future. Equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated space, the facility is designed to handle significant volumes of merchandise. It also incorporates several energy-efficient features, including a rooftop solar installation covering 9,000 square meters, and utilizes waste heat from its refrigeration system for underfloor heating.

In addition to its operational capabilities, the center integrates a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity, enhancing its environmental credentials. This development is a critical component of Lidl’s strategy to reinforce its distribution network, with the facility expected to dispatch about 4,500 pallets of goods daily.

Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout Hungary, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The new logistics center is a strategic move to support Lidl’s ongoing growth and to bolster its operational efficiency within the country.
